The Defense Innovation Unit has collapsed its seven technology portfolios into three, prioritizing autonomous warfare, kill webs and commercial technologies capable of delivering tenfold improvements in price or performance.

- Kill Web: This portfolio aims to integrate commercial space capabilities, networks and sensors into a resilient architecture [2] [3].
- 10x: This portfolio focuses on technologies that offer non-incremental shifts, delivering capabilities that are ten times cheaper, better or faster [2] [3].
Artificial intelligence will no longer be a distinct portfolio but will instead serve as a horizontal capability integrated across the organization’s operations [2] [3].
The changes align with the July 1 establishment of the DRPM-UxS, which consolidated oversight of unmanned and autonomous systems across the military services and defense agencies [4]. The Pentagon designated DIU as the primary commercial-industry interface for the DRPM-UxS portfolio [4] [5].
DIU’s reorganization is intended to help the Department of War shift its procurement strategy away from traditional platforms and toward affordable autonomous mass and advanced kill webs, accelerating a new approach to warfare [2].
